Welcome to Reforming the UK Music Industry for Sustainable Futures

A New Vision for the Music Industry

Hello and welcome! My name is Tobias Briggs, and this blog will document the progress of my research project, Reforming the UK Music Industry for Sustainable Futures.

The UK music industry faces systemic challenges—from career sustainability and financial hardship to gaps in education and a lack of transparency. This project aims to explore solutions that empower professionals, reform industry practices, and build a future where music thrives in a fair and sustainable ecosystem.

Why This Project Matters

Over the past five years, I’ve observed how difficult it can be for industry professionals to sustain careers. Musicians, educators, and other creatives often struggle with financial instability, mental health pressures, and limited industry regulations that leave many vulnerable.

Through research, advocacy, and collaboration, I aim to highlight these challenges while proposing actionable solutions that reshape the industry for the better.

What to Expect From This Blog

This space will serve as a journal of ideas, discoveries, and updates as I navigate the different phases of the project. You’ll find:

Research findings—insights into industry trends, challenges, and comparisons with global music markets.

Interviews & stories—conversations with professionals, educators, and policymakers.

Proposed frameworks—ideas for career sustainability, education reform, and quality assurance for independent artists.

Advocacy & engagement—updates on public discussions, collaborations, and policy proposals.
